Artist Bio:
Curandero is music for ancient Mexican and Amazonian instruments performed and composed by Martin Espino.
"The instruments I create and perform on have come to me from my ancestors in ancient Mexico as well as from other parts of ancient North, Central and South America. I have researched these instruments and their ancient/present day musical practices for over 25 years. Since then, I have met and performed with many indigenous musicians from Mexico, the Ecuadorian Rain Forest, Peru and celebrity artists from Bolivia and other places. I have been performing, teaching, recording and touring for the last 35 years.
All the music is based on serious scholarly research.
"My family is of Mexican/indigenous heritage (Tepehuano and Yaqui). My recording, Curandero, The Healer, is one the first ever to bring to North American audiences the sounds of the other parts of Native America."
Martin leads interactive performances with groups of all ages. All the music is based on almost 30 years of research, experience with indigenous nations and performance. The audience becomes an "ancient orchestra" playing native percussion instruments and singing in indigenous languages.
