Western hemlock and Douglas fir support Washington's timber industry. Snowmelt from the Cascade Range waters the Yakima Valley, where bumper apple crops grow. The harnessed Columbia River irrigates the Columbia Basin, an oasis of wheat, fruits, and vegetables.
