SMALL WONDER
The island, city, deepwater port, and Republic of Singapore, a former British Crown Colony, has become an international financial and trade giant, even though its territory encompasses fewer than 660 sq km tucked between Malaysia and Indonesia. Singapore can boast one of the world's highest per capita incomes, standard of living, and longest life expectancy. Its citizens are nearly 80 percent ethnic Chinese.
